Description:
Gabon Gabon is a country in Western Central Africa known for its high forest cover and low deforestation as well as rich biodiversity and substantial endism. More than 88% of the surface of Gabon is still wooded. Recent analyzes carried out in Central Africa underline the substantial contribution of the Gabonese territory to the safeguarding of regional/world biodiversity, with bastions for forest elephants, gorillas and chimpanzees, in particular thanks to large forests still intact. These forests are however increasingly threatened by infrastructure, lagulture and changes of the land, as well as by unsustainable lextraction of natural resources such as minerals, wood and bush meat - which leads to deforestation and Degradation of forests, including the overall loss of fauna and flora, with the consequence of a decline in biodiversity and a significant increase in total carbon emissions.
