Description: Gabon is 88% covered by the forest and shelters rich plant and fauna biodiversity. Although the country's economy is based primarily in the extractive industries sector (wood, oil, manganese, etc.), the potential for resources from biodiversity remains undeniable with the forest sector contributing to 60% of revenue 'Exports outside oil and constituting the first formal source of employment in the private sector. However, despite the conservation efforts of the highest authorities in the country, threats to biodiversity remain a major concern in particular because of the weakness of investments in the sector. Indeed, the ecological functions and the services of ecosystems which guarantee the well-being and the socio-economic development of the Gabonese population are threatened by deforestation, the degradation of natural habitats, land and coastal erosions, and the disappearance .. .
